Welcome to
Arrowtown Community
Pre-School
Arrowtown Pre-School is a community based Pre-School run by the Management Committee. We require support from famlies and whanau in our programme and invite families to contribute to our programme and profiles. The Committee, with the co-operation of the Teaching Team and Parents/Whanau will achieve the Pre-School’s Philosophy by developing a sound programme and by providing efficient management of the Pre-School.
Pre School Philosophy
“Our Priority is to provide quality education and equitable opportunities to all. We believe that qualified staff working with small groups of children, using the best resources available will provide a high quality curriculum in a stimulating environment.
We will maintain excellent reciprocal relationships with parents/whanau as partners in their child’s learning.”
Programme
Our bicultural programme base is from the Early Childhood Curriculum – Te Whaariki.
The Principles; (Empowerment, Family & Community, Relationships and Holistic Development) and Strands (Well Being, Belonging, Contribution, Communication, Exploration) are woven through this which we are constantly making links with. Our programme is child centered, so we get to know each child and their interests, strengths and abilities. Teachers use digital cameras and technology for recording children’s interests and learning. Learning stories are then documented and displayed in each child’s individual profile folders. The profiles are started when each child begins at Pre-School and will document their learning and progress over their time at Pre-School. Children will take them with them when they leave to move on to school or shift away. The folders are kept in the classroom, please feel free to look at and add parent voices / learning stories from home to your child’s profile at any time. You may take them home but please don’t forget to return them to Pre-School as we are constantly adding to them. We ask you to respect other families privacy and not read other children’s profiles unless invited.
The Pre-School programme mostly allows children to choose activities they wish to participate in, however at times we need to set limits and give direction to ensure the well-being and happiness of the whole group. During the sessions we have a daily mat/music times (15-30minutes) which all children participate in. Teachers work alongside children in extending their interests, and encouraging their independence and self-help skills. We hope you will enjoy assisting in these areas when you are spending time at Pre-School too. Please ask staff if you have any queries or require more information. |
